
- Wheel = the entire setup of the rim, tire, tube, spokes, and hub.
- Rim = the metal hoop the spokes are laced to and the tire & tube sit on.
- Hub = located in the center of the wheel from which the spokes radiate outward.
- Rim Strip = the rubber, cloth or plastic covering over the spoke nipples.

- Headset = bearing component that secures the fork to the frame. Can be either threaded or threadless.
- Stem = holds the handlebars and mounts to the steerer tube on the fork.
- Crank = the drivetrain parts consisting of the crankarms and chainrings.
- 1-Piece = arms and axle are forged as one piece
- 2-Piece = one arm and the axle are forged as one piece; other arm is separate
- 3-Piece = arms and axle are separate (usually preferred for strength)
- Bottom Bracket = consists of the crank axle (bottom bracket spindle) and ball bearings
- Chainwheel = mostly solid front gear used for single-speed bikes. Often called a sprocket.
- Chainring = ring-shaped front gear often used for multi-speed bikes or BMX race bikes.
- Freewheel = a style of gear cluster which threads onto the rear hub.
- Cassette = a style of gear cluster that slides onto the rear hub. Generally lighter than freewheels.
- Derailleur = front and rear gear changing devices. Moves the chain across the cassette and front chainrings.
- Chainstay = the frame tubes that run horizontally from the bottom bracket shell to the rear dropouts where the wheel is attached.
